1. Remove Water & Begin Drying Immediately
- Extract standing water, run industrial fans, and set up dehumidifiers to thoroughly dry the area.
- This can be done by you as the homeowner, or by contacting a certified water remediation company.
- This step should happen as soon as possible—ideally within 24–48 hours—to minimize long-term damage.
2. Review Insurance Coverage
- Contact your homeowner’s insurance provider to report the damage and determine coverage for both remediation and restoration work.
- Keep documentation, photos, and receipts from every step for your claim.
3. Complete Demolition of Damaged Materials
- Once the space is dry, the next step is to remove any damaged furniture, drywall, flooring, insulation, trim, doors, cabinets, etc.

Our 30-year-old home in Brookfield was in good shape but needed some serious help. The kitchen and bathrooms were worn and outdated, and we had a large unfinished room collecting spider webs.
